Sympathy cards are sent on times of sadness due to the passing of a loved one. One great way to show the bereaved that you care about him or her and saddened by the loss is to send a hand made sympathy card.  The same as all type of card making, you should be guided as to whom you are sending it to. If the bereaved is religious, you can make a card with religious messages and designs. However, many people would appreciate a sympathy card that you make on your own because it shows you care a lot.

There are some considerations when making a hand made card. Consider sober and neutral colors in the card design and do not use garish or bright colors. Colors should be light and muted in order to keep up with the depth of the situation. A simple design helps in highlighting the sympathy message you write. Refrain from embellishing the card with glitter and sequins.

In making a hand made sympathy card, there are several materials you have to prepare, depending on what you like. Some materials you can use include a black card stock, strong glue, a piece of patterned wallpaper, white card paper, black organza ribbon, and scissors and craft knife.
